Today i’m going to write a tutorial on how to create a Google Sitemaps for your blog. I believe that some of you may face some problems during the installation process, because i have installed a few times before but failed, but i’m success in the end. It’s used to strengthen your SEO too.
First, what is Google Sitemaps ? Let’s say you have 100 blog entries, so Google Sitemaps is used to collect all your blog entries into one page (sitemap.xml), it’s easier for Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines to crawl your blog. That’s mean it awares you blog entries and new TAG to be scanned and indexed by all search engines everytime you post new entry.
Advantage : Help your blog to achieve higher search engine rankings for your tagged pages.
So i will teach you step by step on how to install and active it :
1) Download Google Sitemap Plugin.
2) Unzip the folder and upload “google-sitemap-generator” folder to your FTP under /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
3) Now, create 2 files named “sitemap.xml” and “sitemap.xml.gz” .
4) Upload the 2 files to your FTP under Wordpress directory (The main blog directory)
5) Check the files permission, change them to writable CHMOD 666. Checkbox as below :
6) Now, go to your wordpress(Blog) cpanel, click on “Plugins”, activate “Google XML Sitemaps”.
7) Click on “Settings” in your wordpress cpanel, find “XML-Sitemap”. If the status shows that your file is not writable, check the 2 files in your FTP whether it’s CHMOD 666 or not. If yes, but the Status still shows your file is not writable, do not worry, leave it for 24-48hours. It will be done ! (It’s what happened to me)
8 ) That’s it !! Have a look of my Sitemap.xml example.
There is a little bit more steps than other wordpress plugins, but it’s good for your blog. You have a better SEO now, i write this tutorial because i failed to install successfully before but after few times trial, i got it ! If you have a niche blog or intend to make money from home, you definately need it.
