If you’re serious in blogging and you want to build your brand in your field, probably you want to market your blog in an effective way. There are actually many ways where you can market your blog and build a brand in your niche, but you have to follow the right way or you may ruin your blog and bring it to an end. Remember that marketing a blog is not a task which you can done in a day or two, it may takes you a couple months or even years, you just have to be patient and keep doing things that you think is right or you may get opinions from experienced or established blogger.
There are tons of ebook or product that tell you that they can help you market your blog or website in short period by following their secret plan or marketing strategy. I don’t mean all the ebooks and products are useless, some of them are really good, they’ll just tell you the steps and you have to follow them, but not in short period. As I said earlier, marketing a blog is a long process, you can’t get it done in a day or two. It goes same to optimizing a competitive keyword, says “make money online“, you have to keep building quality one way backlinks for the keyword, eventually you might rank well for the keyword or you couldn’t defeat your competition, it depends on how much effort you put or whether you do better than your competition.
The concept of building backlinks to outrank your competition is similar to how you market your blog. That being said, there is no shortcut toward success. You have to go through every single steps and test what works and what doesn’t, everyone has to go through the process of trial and error. Eventually you’ll figure out what works well for you. I’ve tried various ways to market my blog, but I find the following methods are working and effective for my blog.
3 Effective Blog Marketing Strategies
1) Don’t confuse, blog commenting is still working.
Many people ignore blog commenting to market their blog because it takes time and effort. Blog commenting is actually the best way to market and brand your blog, but you have to do the right way by leaving genuine comment and related to the topic. The article talks about “Western Food In Australia”, but you leave a comment and say “I’ve been to England before and I like the environment!”, it doesn’t make sense right? Your comment is out of topic, people might ignore you or your comment gets removed. If you continue leaving comment in this way, you’ll get banned by the blog owner. Remember that your comment is visible to the blog owner and his readers, not only the blog owner will ignore you but all his readers will follow the same as well.
Other than leaving genuine comment, you should avoid leaving one liner comment too, you should try to leave at least 2-3 liners comment to get approved by the blog owner.
There are many benefits by marketing your blog with blog commenting, you can also build one way dofollow backlink to your blog other than branding your blog. If you want to market your blog by using blog commenting more effective, then you should try to leave comment in blog which enables Top Commentator, CommentLuv, KeywordLuv, Dofollow Backlink, and etc.
Blog commenting is still working, so don’t try to ignore this method.
2) Spend some times and do guest posting.
You’ve heard a lot of people talking about guest posting, you’ve seen many people doing this too. Guest posting is actually working pretty well in marketing your blog after blog commenting, but the concept goes same to blog commenting, you have to do the right way to get your guest article approved by the blog owner.
In order to get your guest article approved by the owner, you have to read their guest posting guidelines, read what’s the requirement such as article topic, article length, article format, and etc. Quality of the article plays an important role, that’s the first thing that the blog owner concerns about. That being said, you have to really focus on the quality to get your guest article approved. Writing a long post is easy, but writing a high quality post is difficult, at least you need to make sure your post is free of grammatical error.
Definitely, everyone wants to submit their guest post to well known blog such as Problogger, DailyBlogTips, JohnChow and etc because you could get tons of traffic to your blog as well as quality one way backlinks. However, you shouldn’t ignore small blog because every blog has their own readers, so you might don’t want to miss out any opportunity in getting new readers to your blog. You may submit guest post to any blog that related to your blog niche once in awhile to get more exposure.
Sometimes it’s difficult for you to guest posting because you have few blogs to manage and you write article everyday, but that would be good if you could write guest post once in awhile, says once a week or twice a month.
3) Forum posting is cool if you put effort.
Obviously many people ignore forum posting because they think that it wastes their time doing thing that doesn’t convert well. In fact, forum posting works pretty well if you put some effort. You just need to keep posting in forum that relates to your blog niche, I’ve been posting in forum that relates my blog such as Lowyat Forum, WarriorForum and DigitalPoint Forum. They bring me some traffic too but it depends on how active am I on the forum.
In order to market your blog by using forum posting, all you need to do is helping people and resolving their problems. Of course, don’t forget to add your links under your signature to market your blog or website. Remember that you don’t spam the forum, then you’ll be safe.
Wrap Up
There are many ways to market your blog but these are ways that I’m using and I find them useful and effective. Bear in mind that marketing your blog is a long process, there is no shortcut toward success, you have to build them from scratch since the first day you start your blog. If you confident on what you’re doing, keep on doing it without giving up and proof it to everyone that your method is actually working and effective. Don’t give up and you’ll be success one day!

These 3 ways are the oldest ways to market our blogs but they still work very well. Submitting articles to article directories is also another great way to market our blogs…

@Jeen Hao,
Submitting article to article directories would be good, I tried to do it in EzineArticles for my blog before but it didn’t convert well, perhaps internet marketing article is not popular in EzineArticles. It depends on the niche I believe, I used to submit health article to EzineArticle and it converted pretty well.
Ya, indeed, internet marketing niche has become harder and harder to get into. Other niches like weight loss, fishing and golf convert well.

I agree with you Jeen, these are basic traffic generating method but a lot of people are not doing it. These 3 methods are still effective and will be effective for a long time. I also like you adding article marketing, it’s also one of the great ways to generate traffic.
Ya, many people aren’t doing them. They bring traffic, yet good for SEO if we comment in dofollow blogs and forums, and post guest posts in blogs which have dofollow links.

I agree Lee. Many people ignore Blog Commenting and Forum marketing. They can be a great source of traffic. But you are right, you have to do it properly.
I market my website through blog commenting, forum marketing and I recently started video marketing.
I have found blog commenting to be the most effective, then forum marketing then video marketing (but I just started video marketing, so that could be the reason for low traffic).
Kindest,
Nabeel
@Nabeel,
Video marketing would be another great way to market your blog if you can talk confidently in front the video cam, that’s my weakness. ;)
No doubt, blog commenting works pretty well and I recommend everyone to do it for blog branding, traffic building and building one way dofollow backlinks. But strictly no one liner comment.
Nabeel,
Video marketing is taking off fast so it’s great that you’re getting on board now.
You can actually use the same skills from blogging when you’re on video websites. Leave comments there on other videos and pages which then can send traffic to your videos.

Really great post Lee,
You are absolutely right.
Many of these tips work and I never knew the power of forum posting until started being active on warrior forum recently.
Thanks so much for the great post,

@Onibalusi,
Thanks for leaving a comment here bro. Forum posting is working if you’re really active and be helpful in the forum. You need to let people know that you’re exist in the forum.
Among the 3 mentioned strategies, I think blog commenting will help you build a good community around your blog which can’t be achieved with forum posting…But yes, forum posting is easy and it brings in traffic and backlinks.
Guest posting is good for those who have lot of time and can guest post on various blogs plus can update their own blog regularly.

@Typhoon,
Yes, blog commenting is the best among three methods. Forum posting might take you some times to drive traffic to your blog or it may not convert well if you just posting once in awhile, you need to be actively and posting regularly. No doubt, guest posting is good and yes, it takes time to write a quality post too. :)
Man,
I am extremely bad at the commenting part. Usually, I restrict myself to commenting on 10-15 blogs that I know. And guest posting is again something that I have never done but I understand that it works 100 times better than commenting. As for forum posting, I have seen that every time I updated one or two threads at warriorforum or DP forums, I get a lot of referral traffic. It hasn’t done any good to my SEO though.
Very important three points!

@Ajith Edassery,
Glad to see you here Ajith. You may need to spend some times on blog commenting because it works pretty well in marketing your blog. I’ve been writing guest post to a few blogs once in awhile and it definitely works well than any marketing methods. You may try this two methods from now on and you’ll see some improvements. :)
I think some people tend to only focus on one aspect of backlink building and that’s why blog commenting gets ignored. It’s much better to use a combination of all these backlinking methods so that your efforts look more natural to the search engines.

@Jake,
Blog commenting is actually one of the ways to build one way backlinks, most of the blog are dofollow the outbound links in the comment section these days. So there will be a few benefit by doing blog commenting.
These are all great tips for marketing your blog. Leaving comments on blogs is the best way to market your site especially if you are well known within the community. Same with forums if you post on forums related to your niche you can get quality traffic to your blog as well as backlinks.
@Bidet,
You don’t have to be well known within the community, you just need to leave genuine comment with 2-3 liners, that would be great. Leaving comments on blogs could bring in one way dofollow backlinks, building your brand, driving traffic and etc.
Keeping up with blogs in your RSS, trying to make a good habit out of commenting will not only help you stay fresh but also could get you into top commentors.
I’d say about 30% of my traffic comes straight through blog commenting. Just think too, when you leave a comment even years from now if the page is still up, someone may click through and visit your site :)
Murlu recently posted..Money Talks- The Top 7 Best Movies About Business -amp Money
@Murlu,
You’re right Murlu, it goes same to me, part of the traffic comes from blog commenting too. In fact, blog commenting has a lot of benefits in marketing a blog and I recommend my blog buddies to do it as well. Glad to know that my blog is in your RSS too, or I’m thinking too much? lol! ;)
Great post about the basics Lee. They to take some time and effort but they do work. #1 and #3 are also things that can be easily outsourced. #2 is also a great networking tool and you also inherit the credibility of the blog you are guest posting on.
Hi Lee,
Thanks for sharing this. These 3 methods that you covered are all basic methods but yet, a lot of people are not doing it because they think that it’s not effective anymore and time-consuming.
Blog commenting is really a great way to generate traffic not just on your blog, but on your squeeze pages as well if you are building your list.
The most powerful for me to generate instant traffic and generate subscribers is guest blogging. I once wrote a guest post and I was able to generate 23 subscribers from just one article.
Hey Gary,
That’s great. Care to share your guest post?
I have not yet done guest blogging. Your stats look really great. Which blog did you guest post on?
Kindest,
Nabeel
PS: Gary, you can use KeywordLuv on this blog when commenting. You should type Gary David@Build Your List Fast in the name field and it will appear as Gary David from Build Your List Fast. This will make your anchor text keyword rich.
Hi Nabeel,
Thanks for the tip regarding KeywordLuv. Sure, let me share here the guest post that I once wrote that generated me 23 subscribers. Here it is: http://zacjohnson.com/how-to-add-hundreds-of-subscribers-to-your-list-every-week/
Zac Johnson is also one of the big guns when it comes to blogging. I was also able to guest post in johnchow.com as well.
I suggest to start guest posting Nabeel, I can see your efforts when it comes to blog commenting, why not try guest posting. It can really sky-rocket your traffic and add fresh new subscribers almost instantly. Do this at least 1-2 times per week and you’ll see the result.=)
Regards,
Gary
Hey Gary,
Thanks a lot for sharing your post. I know I am kinda hijacking the comments here, but I know Lee won’t mind.
So my comment on your post is:
Really great insight Gary!
You are correct. The average we can take is that every subscriber of our list is worth $1.00.
I had a question:
Suppose we build a list of 500 and do a Adswap. Then when do we do another Adswap? With this current list of 500 again? Or after we reach 1000?
What I mean is that wont the list of 500 get tired of receiving invitations to join someones else list?
Kindest,
Nabeel
