Yes it is worthwhile to mix in some web 2.0 page creation. Sites like squidoo and hubpages can be a great source of backlinks, especially with how you can control most page elements such as page url, title, link anchor text, etc. The trick to making them really effective is to do 2nd layer link building and build links to each of your squidoo lenses and other web 2.0 pages.
Sure squidoo is worth giving a good try as i have seen some big blogs that rely on squidoo for a huge percentage of their daily traffic. So, go ahead and give it a shot.
Traffic is important and you usually get free traffic through by connecting with fellow webmasters through social media sites like facebook and twitter.
I have to say that anyone that is not utilizing the power of twitter and facebook is certainly of these huge traffic channels.

Good point. Articles have a viral effect where they keep building more backlinks as more sites republish your articles. This is why it is important to write quality articles. The better the article is, the more likely it is that lots of sites will want to republish it.
Good tips. For best results, try to get backlinks from many different sources. It can be risky to over-concentrate on building links from any one source. Think of what could happen if that site decided to make all external links nofollow or if they made other similar site changes.

Interesting post, you are so right on it. My biggest advice regarding your article is that the most important and easy way to get really good links is from related blogs and forums in your niche or branch, because you often know a lot and can write good comments then and Google like it.
Hi Lennart, yeah you are right on linking with other blogs! But when you linkup with other blogs and forums, ensure they are blogs in the same niche as yours as this helps to reduced the suspicion of link spamming.

I forgot one other huge SEO link tips; Control and go only for the blogs and forums with high Trust at Google (not Page ranking) then you don’t need some many in links to get a top position in the SERP.

I did all of the things you mentioned above for link building. However, it requires a lot of effort and time. We have to be patient to see the result. Try to build up the link with high PR page too.
