Since Twitter’s 2006 launch, it has climbed up the social media ladder to now be the second largest social media presence online. Millions “log in” to Twitter every day sharing events, website links or connecting with other users. Twitter still continues to increase in popularity driven by the media and a number of celebrities who have jumped on board. The opportunity to make money on twitter is ever growing and only made easier by Google’s recent public recognition of tweets and their place in the search results. Now with even the search engines moving towards more social based methods of communication, Twitter is proving to be a great place for those who want the maximum influence online.

As online business owners, it is important for us to use any opportunity to gather information about various traffic sources as well as automating our systems as much as possible. As a result of this demand for more Twitter information and automation, there have been a number of tools created to automate and improve the use of Twitter. Many of these have become essential to businesses’ success on twitter. So today I thought I would share the tools that have made the most impact on my business and on the businesses of those who I know.

Here are 5 that have changed the way businesses use Twitter.

1) FlashTweet

FlashTweet

FlashTweet is a fairly new tool, but it has a lot of power behind it. This tool allows you to give your brand the maximum exposure on Twitter in the shortest amount of time. It boasts features such as Auto-follow and Un-follow functionality, scheduling tweets weeks in advance. It gives your business the ability to mass-follow other Twitter members within markets related to your website.

2) Twitter Grader

A tool created by Hubspot; Twitter Grader provides key information concerning your Twitter activity and the activity of those who you follow. This tool gives you the ability to make well-thought out decisions about the level of engagement your followers have so that you can decide to un-follow certain people if necessary.

3) Hummingbird 2.0

Hummingbird 2.0

Hummingbird 2.0 is a fantastic tool which runs on your desktop. Schedule tweets, view past tweets, track your twitter activity/growth and so much more. Hummingbird is a powerful marketing tool with a large array of features.

4) Twollow

This tool holds a large database of Twitter users all separated into specific categories. Twitter users can use this tool to find related Twitter users with similar interests to follow.

5) Twitaholic

Twitaholic

Twitaholic provides detailed stats on the top Twitter users ranked from #1 onwards. For new users to Twitter, or any user wishing to advance their Twitter following, this tool gives you the ability to follow the world’s most popular Tweeters. You have the ability to follow their moves and watch what makes them successful so that you can use them as a model for your own business.

Wrap Up

Nice list. We are starting to get more involved in Twitter. Probably the most important tool for us is TweetDeck.

Hi Whiztechy,

Yes Flashtweet is a fairly new tool. I actually discovered it when the creator of it was talking on a local forum I use about the tool. It’s certainly worth a try.

Interesting list. I don’t think the last one is very relevant though – you don’t need to follow them or learn from them. What makes them popular is the fact they’re celebrities in the real world – not exactly a strategy you can copy ;)

Good list. These tools certainly help use Twitter, but I think twitip.com is a great place for businesses to go to, also, because the tools alone don’t help use Twitter wisely, which is just as essential!

Cheers!

I think there have been so many tools lately that worked their way up to Twitter that I think it’s actually something bad for a business: Twitter (if not already) are not going to allow others to make money off of it’s site – at the cost of twitter which is not winning to make any money though. Great tools to schedule posts if they aren’t commercial though!
