This article is dedicated to all those people who are ready to take the plunge into the world of making money online because today I’m going to highlight some of the most popular myths about making online money so that you don’t fall in them easily or get yourself trapped in any sort of scam.
Myth 1- You can get rich overnight
Sadly, this is the most popular myth in which most of the newbie fall through. There is no such method in this world which can make you rich overnight unless you are an exception and going to launch a service similar to Google.
Myth 2 – This E-book contains everything you need to know
Pay $9.99 for this book and see what experts are doing to earn 6 figures every day.
Or
Pay $19.99 for Step-by-Step tutorial on how to make tons of money online.
Really, you will find this kind of Shit at many places and people would be dying to get this shit. For God’s sake, use your common sense (although it’s not that common). Why would anybody sell a book at dirt cheap prices if he knows the method of earning six or seven figures?
Myth 3- Blogging is the easiest way to earn money.
I am tired of hearing such kind of statements – “Launch blog and earn money with Google Adsense”.
There are already millions of blogs on the web and if you don’t have anything valuable to add to it then it’s better not to start a blog. Blogging is not an easy job and demands lot of patience and hard work before showing any results.
Myth 4 – I don’t need any money to market online Business.
Are you kidding? Really, people think that they just have to buy a domain name, install shopping cart, pay for web hosting and now they are set to sell products online.
If you are thinking that there is no need to spend any money in marketing the online business then think again. If you want to earn real money from online business, then be prepared to spend money in its marketing. Business means business. It don’t matter whether it is online or offline.
Myth 5 – I would be having plenty of free time.
To earn money you have to work hard, there is no easy way to earn money. People who are earning their livelihood by working online work very hard harder hardest. So if you are thinking that you can earn huge amount of money doing nothing, then I am sorry there is nothing for you in online world.
Myth 6 – Nobody makes money online.
Most of the people think that online world is full of scams and nobody can make money online. I agree that there are douchebags out there who scam people but it doesn’t mean that if you are unable to make any money then nobody’s making money online.
Myth 7 – My dog can also earn money online.
I have encountered many articles about making money online which mentions something like “making money online is not rocket science” or “Anybody can earn money online”.
This is completely wrong. To earn money you need some skills either is it web designing, marketing, writing or anything else. If you don’t have any skill then you won’t be able to earn any money.
These are the most popular seven myths according to me about making money online. Now I would love to hear myths you had. So feel free to share them in the comments.

Spot on, Mark.
It’s a shame that so many still believe some of them.
Another one…
“I’ll guarantee to get you to the Google number one spot…Overnight”
No-one can guarantee that!

Agreed. It’s refreshing to see some honesty injected into the “making money online” space. Andrew, the people who claim that they can launch your site to the top of Google overnight aren’t always bs’ing. But, they will charge you a boatload of cash for Adwords, lol.
I hate it when the seller do not tell you that you will need to invest more money.

Sorry but I have to disagree on #4: I don’t need any money to market online Business.
While it is much better to have a marketing budget, there are many ways you can do free marketing. You can use free marketing techniques to build up an income stream which can then be reinvested in marketing.
Ok, Even free marketing techniques require money, you have to hire SEO experts, content developers etc etc.
You can’t do everything yourself and even if you are doing everything yourself it requires lot of time, the time which you could have used to earn something
It depends on the nature of your blog and your skill set. Many bloggers know enough about seo & marketing to at least get the wheels turning. While it is ideal to outsource some of the marketing/seo tasks, it is possible to do a lot of it yourself. I would think that 99% of the blogs out there start with little or no budget. You may find that it is a lot of work to do everything yourself, but most people simply do not have much to invest in starting a blog. The trick is to reinvest in things like freelancer outsourcing when you can afford it. I just don’t think it’s mandatory to invest in marketing at the start.
I find the most myths in this list. Yeah — many making money buddy fall because of that myth.

There is no magic bullet when it comes to making money online. Hard work, dedication, and patience are key. You have touched on, in my opinion, the major myths.
You are right! There are some people still believe on some of the points you stated. I think hardwork is important if we really wish to make money online. I’m a new blogger and wish to make money online. Although i do not make much money from it, i’m still learning and love to do it too. Thanks for your sincere sharing!

Firstly, thanks to Mark for writing those myths. I’m a blogger who never spend any penny for ebook because I know they (IM) only make money by selling information product. This is the only way they can make 6 figure per month.
A lot of people got suckered fro thsoe eBooks, LOL.
Good thing that I am not one of those.

This is a great post. I see all sorts of junk from scammers and douche bags out there promoting get rich schemes through blogging and other online ventures. I try and ignore them. I only buy E Books from writers I trust.
When I started mine, it was mainly to promote my design and SEO firm and the company I work for as well. But now, I am working toward making money and having a popular blog. I have only been working on my blog since December and I can see how much work it is.

You really don’t need money to make money online. However, you would need time to put into your online business to make money.

Totally agree on all the point written. I only believe if you have traffic then you can make the money. And it took years to build up your traffic and not in one night.
Not only Traffic , but you need quality traffic i think , For eg – You have a social bookmarking site, it attracts lot of traffic, but people come to your site, submit url and then go away, the only money you earn is from PPC ads, which would be very low, because visitors of your website are not interested in clicking on them
Now take another point – You have a product review website, you get very few hits, but traffic you are getting is interested in buying a product so there is high probability of earning money
So, Money you earn is not directly proportional to the traffic you get.
Does that make sense ?
Agree with your point, Mark. Audiences from different traffic stream (social network, search engine, referral and direct traffic) has different tendency to click on the ads. The topic that you blog does matter as well which attracts different CTR.

Well I passed the first 2 myths long time ago (sadly)
I am discovering the 3rd myth right now
4. Hmmm, this is interesting point of view. I realize that on the certain level I will definitely have to pay some money in order to make some more, but I can’t agree that simply nothing can be made with free methods. Of course, these require time, and time is money so ultimately yes, you have to spend money one way or another
5. Studying and applying IM and making money online techniques and tricks really consumes all of my free time for the last 6 months. I get to play games now and then for a half an hour or an hour max – but this is really some bloody work, I agree.
6. LOL – ignorance is no excuse!
7. Well, I think that the missing ingredient most people don’t have is patience and determination. I am familiar with making money online for about 4 years. It took me 2 years to get my first 100$, during that time I spent probably 10 times more on various scams and frauds. I had a group of friends following me because we discussed and had big plans for our future.
Now I am the only one left of that group, everybody else just said “It’s all s***t, money CAN’T be made online” – it’s true that they still earn more money doing regular jobs than me, but they have fixed income, the one that rarely ever changes. And my income is slowly but steadily rising, and I am absolutely sure that I will at the certain point of time be making more money than them, not just more money, but multiple times more. Still, people seem to be more eager to work their 9-5 jobs, be unsatisfied with their salary, complain about their boss and do nothing to change that.
I think that marketing and making money online isn’t really a rocket science, you just have to understand several crucial concepts and work your butt of to reach your goals.

I have come upon so many different types of blogs, covering different topics, that (claim to) make money. Goes to show that money can be made within any niche. The hardest task, however, is gaining the readership and hence the earnings.
Awesome list.
Most retarded myth I hear is when a blogger says he works 4 hours a week and makes 6 figures a year. And that he can teach you how-to in his $19 e-book. Yea, right.

People always think that making money online is a very easy job. But they ashould realize that it takes a lot of hard work an patience to start earning a decent living , also it is not possible to earn good cash over night.

ROFLMAO. Interesting list of myths. The one that still irks me the most is the first. You can get rich overnight.
Folks can be so fooled by “gurus” claiming they can help you set up blogs in high paying keyword niches and have you making as much as $2 a day in adsense clicks from the very day your blog is launched.
Myths 1 and 2 are what I now choose to call “Legitimate Scams”
“My dog can also earn money online.” LOLZ

Great post! the advantage of making money online is that you can work at home. You will have time for your family and to monitor your children. The disadvantage is that you cannot concentrate to your work, You need to be more patience. The most important is to be happy in a sense that you are happy to your work, to your boss, and to your friends.
More power to your site !!! God Bless
Hilarious writeup but in real life there are still people falling for it, off course except for the last one -lol.
Very often for beginner, you need to be jack of all trade unless you’ve tons of cash to pay for lessons – “that rip off”.
Many people think that you need to have excellent command of English to succeed in the English language segment. The truth is, not all English language site are written by native English speaker, all you need is able to express so other can understand what you mean
Always use simple English wordings even my dog can understand – lol.
Thanks for debunking these myths. I get a lot of clients who think that setting up a blog is the magic pill that will make all their dreams come true. Then they are disappointed when no one visits their site and they don’t make the millions of dollars they fantasized about.
These days, if I find out the client is thinking their blog is the easy path to riches, I go ahead and disabuse them of that notion immediately. It’s doing them a disservice to let them keep following a pipe dream.
Bringing a skill to the table is absolutely crucial to make money online. You see so many people dive right into a blueprint method they bought only to find out they need to buy something else to get their skill up to really make it work for them.
If you’re good at writing, offer a writing service. If you can design and code, work on websites. The list goes on and on, we all have a skill, just find a market that demands it.
