7 Ways How To Make Money For Kids

by Lee Ka Hoong on October 24, 2009

The age for kids is below 13 years old, kids who are below 13 years old should be quite complicated to make money online, if no one teaches them about internet and world wide web, they couldn’t be able to earn some pocket money online. Usually the intention of kids to make money is to buy their favourite toys, snacks, Yu-Gi-Oh cards and the like, so they will look for every money making opportunities to achieve their goals.

When I was young, after schooling I used to work part time to earn some pocket money for my daily expenses. There are actually many ways that a kid can make money, they don’t have to know anything about internet and they can make extra cash in reality. Kids don’t like anyone to force them to do something that they don’t like, as well as making money, it’s flexible and they can earn some extra income by doing things that they love, their hobby as well as their skills.

I’ll be sharing my experiences and I’ll list down a few ways about how to make money for kids.

7 Ways How To Make Money For Kids

1) Selling Vegetable In The Market
When I was young, I used to help my cousin to sell vegetable in the fresh market. Besides of vegetable, he did sell many other groceries. When a customer requested for something, then I’ll go and get the things for him and my cousin will collect the money. Other than selling vegetable, I did help him to move groceries and arrange them properly on the table.

Selling vegetable in the fresh market won’t make you a lot of money, but it’s still money if you add it up. I did it when I want to earn some pocket money.

2) Selling Biscuit In Bakery
Other than selling vegetable in the fresh market, you can also sell biscuit in bakery, the scope of work would be similar to selling vegetable in the market, you need to serve customer and get whatever your customer wants, it’s fairly simple and it’s what a kid can do.

3) Selling Handcraft

Voodoo Doll

You may need to have some skills to make money by selling handcraft, I used to make voodoo doll and sell it to my friends in the past, you can also make some other handcraft to sell it to your friends at school. The more you do, the more money you can earn in a day, voodoo doll can be sold in good price, you would be able to make some good money if you can do up to 10 voodoo dolls in a day, my friend used to make up to 20 voodoo dolls a day.

4) Car Wash
You can do a lot of job to earn some extra cash, cash wash would be one of them. You are not required to have any skills to do this, you just need to know how to clean a car, you just need your parents to show you 1 time and you can definitely do it yourself.

You can go to the same street of their house, go house by house and ask whether they need help to wash their car, of course you need to help them how much you charge for that. Be sure you get permit from your parents before doing this, some parents may too sensitive about this.

5) Deliver Flyers
Delivering flyers would be more simple than other ways to make money for kids, you’ll need to find a company which assigns this job, you’re given a number of flyers and you just need to deliver all of them to a location that they set for you. You can either deliver flyers from house to house, or you can deliver to passenger, it depends on what your boss want you to do.

6) Pet Sitting
Many kids love pet especially puppy or kitten, this is an interesting way to make money. If you love pet and you can ask your neighbors who have pet and need people to look after it, then you take the job. It’s really not easy to get a job which is your hobby, if you love pet and there is a money making opportunity, grab it!

7) Selling Gaming Cards

Digimon Cards

Kids love gaming cards such as pokemon cards, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, pokemon cards and the like. If you have some extra money, buy a huge number of various cards and sell it to your friends in the school.

It’s some sort like investment, it doesn’t mean that you can earn more money by selling any cards, you need to check for the current trend and see which gaming card is the hottest one, buy a huge number in lower price, and sell it one by one or in bulk in higher price, you can probably earn 200% profit in short time.

Conclusion

There are actually many other ways to make money for kids, these 7 ways would be just a part of them, I’ll be covering more ways to make money for kids on the next few days as I believe that kids don’t need to just make money online to earn some extra cash for their expenses, they can also earn money in reality.

Did you try to earn extra income when you was a kid? What did you do?

@Princas,
In order to make money online, the very first thing is to setting up your blog and drive in more traffic. I see that your blog just publish photos and 1 short sentences, that would not that good for SEO, you should try to write more in the article. When you have decent traffic to your blog, you should be able to make some money.

Er…write books and sell them… like me? LOL.

When I was 10, I used to sell origami in class, and it was really good business. I get about RM 0.30 from every origami I sell. And I even sold some for RM 1! But I eventually found out that you shouldn’t sell things in school, so I stopped.

@Gloson,
Yes, writing books and sell them is one of the best way for kids to make money, but I think not much people could write poem very well like you Gloson. ;)
Origami? That’s cool! But try not to expand your business at school, you’ll get caught and penalized by the headmaster. Try to minimize the circle and sell it to limited friends. (Of course, it is better not to do this at school, outside the school would do)

As for part time, cashier and housekeeper would be good to make money for short term. If you’re looking for long term job, then you need to look for other job that is in your interest field. Are you a student now Tong?

@izzat,
That’s fine izzat, people makes money at the age of 15 because they need money to achieve their goals or purchase something else. If you’re free from these, then you can enjoy your life without doing part time job. But, starting up your online business would be good at your age, I started my blog one and half year ago, I should start earlier but I didn’t have any online knowledge until my brother taught me about that.

So, it’s good for you to start now. :)

The features are quite limited. For blogspot, It seems that I cant add new pages like wordpress. And for wordpress I cant edit the layout. I cant position where to put those widget ? Where do you find sponsor ?

@Tong Yeah Fong,
I’m using Wordpress.org which you need a web hosting and domain to host your wordpress blog, then you can have full control of your blog.

For sponsor part, when your blog grows well and have huge traffic and readership, then advertiser will look for you. :)

If you’re serious to make money online, get your own hosting and domain, that’s the basic before you can move on and build your blog. Writing unique and useful content is what you should do, driving traffic and SEO techniques would be next.

Let me know if you need my help Tong. :)

Yea there are actually many other ways for kids to make money, these 7 ways are just a part of them. Helping parents with their business at home would be great, parents would save a lot of money by hiring another worker in higher salary. It’s good for kids to learn independent and to let them know that money is hard to earn, so kids will know how to save money.

So it cost money to get web hosting and domain name. That means at the moment I am just able to add and fill the content of my blog 1st. Then afterwards only I transfer it to my own website.

@Tong,
You can do it in this way too, perhaps you just fill more content to your blog, and transfer to your own hosting and domain later. Then you will need to build more backlinks again for the new domain. It’s up to you, as long as you enjoy doing it. :)

@Tong Yeah Fong,
It depends on which hosting plan that you sign up, some hosting plan just supports 1 domain only. Take Hostgator as example, Hatching Plan allows you to host 1 domain, while Baby Plan allows you to host unlimited domain. Of course, the price will be different. In long term basis, I recommend you to sign up Baby Plan as you can host more domains, I believe that you should need it when you’re serious in making money online.

Earning money as a child can be very tough. Many people are not willing to trust you and give you an opportunity. I remember doing various things to earn money when I was young. It was mostly outdoor jobs like mowing lawns and shoveling snow from driveways. I also had a stint of folding flyers for my mom’s workplace.
