Avoiding Online Scams – What You Should Know

When it comes to making money online, scams are just a roadblock in your path. They take your money and leave you wondering what you are doing. The reason that scams work is because people are greedy. They think that they can make $10,000 a month and obviously they fail. Scams have been around forever. They are generally programs / companies that promise you that you can make an enormous amount of money in a short period of time. What is sad is that there are many people out on the web that will fall for these sorts of scams. In this post I will give you some tips to avoiding these nasty online scams..

Research is Key

Research is key because you always want to read about others experiences with a site / product before you use it. That way you will be able to differentiate the legitimate sites from the scams. If there is a site that scams people, chances are people have blogged about it so that others won’t fall for it too.

The Google Scam

Online-ScamThe Google scam is one of the more common online scams that I have found. It actually has nothing to do with Google. It’s a system designed to take a couple of dollars from you with no benefits from you. There are tons these Google Scams out there and I advise you to stay away from them.

The Google Scam is a scam that claims that you can make up to $7,000 a month posting links. However all they end up doing is taking your bank account number and charging it for the money making kits which are completely worthless. There are hundreds of these little website claiming that people have made tons of money with posting links on Google. This is a very serious scam so beware.

To Good to Be True?

If the company sounds too good to be true it is. For example, I once stumbled upon a survey site who offered a free vacation once a user signed up. Obviously I didn’t fall for this scam because I knew it was too good to be true. When it comes to making money online, common sense really helps.

Remember that in order to avoid online scams, you need to be cautious and always do your research. I can’t emphasize enough how important research is when it comes to sniffing out the scams. Scams are more likely to succeed with beginners because they don’t have the greatest experience. There are many legit money making opportunities out there. It is up to you to find them for yourself.

  1. The very basic tip yet people tend to ignore “If its too good to be true, then probably, its a SCAM”. And also, if that people selling that kind of technique to you, claiming he/she is earning 7000$ or something, then why he/she will sell it?

  2. One has to be very careful about what programs you join and what kind of information you give out. I normally check up to double check if others have posted about it or complained or some kind of warning has gone out.

    I receive many emails saying that I won thousands or even millions of dollars and ask for details. My thinking is, if I won then give me my money. Why would you need other information from me?

      @Serradinho,
      lol! You know I even received call and said that I won a cash prize, but the requirement was that I need to pay a 20% deposit before receiving the cash prize due to the bank system. I even asked them to help me pay the deposit, when they get the cash prize, just transfer half of it to me, and I asked them to take the half of the money as reward, ended up they just ignore me, lol!

  3. Andrew from blogging guide says:

    Unfortunately there are thousands who still believe this hype. Those who are desperate to get some income.

    I think there is another category. Those that say perhaps “$3,000 a month within weeks just by blogging. Here buy my book $27.”

    It’s a bit more believable, doesn’t cost too much and people buy it. They think its a ‘silver bullet’ and won’t have to work.

    Let’s spread the word – making money via blogging takes hard work, commitment and persistence and if you make $500 a month after 6 months you are doing really, really well.

      @Andrew,
      Strongly agree with you Andrew. When I first started blogging, I really believed that those tutorial was really worked and I didn’t need to spend much time to make money. That’s a wrong concept, as you said blogging requires effort. Unfortunately, I got scammed in the past when I first started online, it was not a big amount but I hate it, even today.

    All offers I received and find online I always check first for irregularities and negative comments. The thing with these scammers is that they all seem to be really good at making very convincing stories and sales pitches. I think I’ve been exposed to the internet long enough to recognize these scammers at first sight. But like Andrew said, there are still others who get to fall upon these scammers hands. It really surprises me, for instance, to know that there are still people who fall for the ‘I’m self exiled here in Sweden and my money worth 25 Billion is still in my country and I can’t get it because my political foes….Please help me…’ BS. :)

      @James,
      It’s because there is people who doesn’t have experience and online knowledge, that’s why they get trapped. I used to receive few emails like “Please help to withdraw my $2.5 million in the bank and I’ll pay you 10% as reward” every week, I wonder is there anyone still believe this kind of email. Anyway, I hope they’re fine and get out of the trap. ;)

    Ooooh, I’ve had my share of being scammed, unfortunately.

    Now I know, and chances are something like 0.0001% that someone will ever scam me again.

    The real difficulty are those “gray” type of sites. Just like there is white-hat, gray-hat and black-hat SEO, there are similar type of sites and opportunities regarding scam.

    There are those which are 100% scam, those that are legitimate, and there are also those which are somewhere in the middle. I’ve been “scammed” by a few of those kind too, but some of them even worked, and worked very well for some people.

    The best option is to simply give your own shot at this industry, try your own luck with your own brain and efforts, without someone else “doing all the job for you”.

If it is a scam, chances are that other people have already fallen for it and have warned others online. If you are the gullible type, it may be best to research scams ahead of time. Then when the scam presents itself, you will be able to spot it easily.

  10. EarningStep says:

    it doesn’t matter how smart we are . the scammer will always exist with their new killer system , just be careful …
