How many of you here have ever heard about Bum Marketing? Honestly, I have never heard about such a marketing strategy – not until 6 months ago when I purchased Ewen Chia’s 24 Hour Internet Business.
If you have been following closely to the post and articles I have written, you would notice that one of my major marketing strategies comes from article submission itself. I started out as an affiliate marketer with no website and inevitably, I did not spend a single cent on anything. Bum marketing is based on the premise that you focus each article you write on a specific set of keywords, which you will rank well within Google. I have come to realize that Ezine Articles is highly respected by the search engines, and it is possible to write an optimized article and have it ranking high in search engines in as little as a day.
Generally, Bum marketing is based on the principle of finding keywords that receive both a decent amount of traffic, and a little competition.

You need to find dominating phrases
You would need to find phrases you can dominate quickly. It is quite similar to how keyword research works. Basically, you start out by aiming on a product that you think might be a ‘HOT subject.
Start out with a broad term and narrow it down to what you will find people most interested in that subject.
Take for example:
The subject of “PSP” and how music relates well with its distinctive growth at current. Instead of opting in for just “PSP music” as we know that it will surely lead to countless numbers of competitors, we narrow our keyword to a much more anticipated phrase that has an appropriate number of searches but less in competitors.
Now here’s a little secret. The more words the phrase has, as a general rule the less optimized results that phrase will have and people typing that phrase in the search engine are more likely to buy. Therefore, instead of using “PSP music”, you may consider “how to download music to PSP” or “How to put music on PSP”.
Do a search query on Google itself and determine for yourself just how many search results are shown. The lesser the number it is, the lesser your competitors are and the better your chance of ranking your articles on the first page of the search engine when such ‘keyword phrases’ are typed in.
Important Submission Consideration
When it comes to profiting from Bum marketing, it is essentially important that you know what kind of article directories you need to submit your articles in. You can have the most anticipated keyword phrase, the most keyword optimize article written but if you fail to submit on to an optimized article directory itself, your articles will eventually not make it to a promising state. Therefore, I would highly recommend that you put an emphasis to submit your articles to these 3 big articles directories.
Ezine Articles – We all know that Ezine Article is the most powerful article directory of them all with a PR6 or PR7. Ezine Articles will surely ensure that your Bummed articles reaches the first few spots of the major search engines with up to 10,000 competing results. However, some of the drawbacks are that you really need to provide quality articles as they are monitored and approved by real person. Affiliate links are not allowed too but you can overcome this by redirecting your traffic to your free blog such as WordPress or Blogger before leading them into your affiliate links.
GoArticles – This site has great PR and is perfect for a new person to internet marketing that does not have a website because GoArticles allows you to link directly to the merchant website.
Coming Up With An Article
Learning to come up with your own article is fairly easy. There are many methods to go about writing articles. Hiring Ghost writers as well as re-writing from PLR articles is great way to generate your share of articles for submitting.
You do not have to write big long essay style articles. Simply write a short article of about 200-500 words in length, and use one of the following simply article formats to attract readers.
Tips – people love tips. You can start out your article title with such a headline like 7 tips to…, 3 easy tips to…, 8 sure-fire tips to…. and so on.
FAQ – Find out the top 3 to 5 questions people have on a particular topic and answer them. People love these types of articles…and minimum research is required even for more complicated topics!
Review articles – Have you bought a book, movie, software or other item that you really liked? Write a little review on that product. People love good honest reviews.
Bum marketing is essentially a very powerful marketing strategy and if so that it works quite similarly with article marketing, the key here is to work on keyword phrases that has a level of searches per month but with low competitors alike so you can easily rank high with it. Evidently, this was how I was able to make money online from my affiliate product links and distinctively, I believe you can do it too. It doesn’t take one to be a genius to benefit from this marketing strategy but I have come to notice that not many know about such a strategy.
Yes, we have heard about how needy it is to include keyword rich words into your articles submission, but not every keyword will get you rank high on search engines. Bum marketing will and I hope you see the opportunity that lies within it.

Well… I think Ewen got this “Bum Marketing Method” from Russell Brunson, but even though the method is different but the name is the same. Anyway.. using Ezine, I have no doubt, as good content article will get to the first page of Google, but it also important that good headlines can get you to the top too.

I always wondered about this, and thought about bum marketing. You have cleared it up. You actually provided some pretty good information on article marketing too!
But I would not advice to directly send someone to a sales page. Instead send them to a squeeze page and build your list, because the money is in the list.

This was a great post. i really like article marketing because i got into blogging to write. i had never thought to customize articles for the search engines, the way iǘe been optimizing my campaign is to look at my articles which are doing well and capitalize on those titles. The only drawback to this that i can see is that i did a little keyword research on the articles you mentioned above and they all get 10 or less searches a month globally.
