Content Duplication : Play Safe With Google

July 11, 2008 · 6 comments

Lately I realized that many blogs were copying and pasting others’ content on their blog without the owners’ permissions. However, I noticed about it few weeks ago on my blog too but I’ve not bothered about it. Today I check the comment spam folder in wordpress control panel, I found that there was a few trackbacks, they were not taking my post as an example or related posts, but they copied my content and pasted it on their blog without asking for permissions from me. In reality, I can call them as “Thief” and I can call the police. In world wide web, I can call them as “Thief” as well, but I can’t call police but I could inform Google about the content duplication, it may causes the blog to be deindexed or banned by Google in the search engine.

Content duplication would be a serious case and it may brings your blog or website to an end in the search engine, Google hates duplicate content. Many newbies or beginners who just start off their internet marketing business don’t know about the seriousness of content duplication, they think that they can just copy content from other bloggers and use on their blog, place some Adsense ads and start making money online. It doesn’t make sense at all, money will not come in easy way and there is no shortcut to make money online.

Google Webmaster Guidelines

Your blog or website gets banned by Google or de-indexed in Google search engine is the worst thing ever, so you might want to be careful while playing with Google. Google hates webmasters who play cheat, either way if you want to play cheat such as content duplication, then you have to keep it in minimum, at least rewrite or rephrase certain sentences; or you want to play safe with Google, then you might want to read the “Webmaster Guidelines“, it shows you what you should “DO” and “DON’T DO“.

How To Report Spam?

Webmaster or blogger hates people who copy their content, I believe that you might be the same, you hate people who copy your content and use it on their sites. If you notice that someone is copying your content and using it on their sites without your permission, then you may want to report it to Google and Google will take action banning and removing their sites from Google search engine.

Google has a “spam report page” where you can submit the site that you think is spam or the site duplicates your content. We help Google to maintain the quality of the search result, and we hope Google would gives us some rewards in return such as better search engine ranking or higher Pagerank. Anyway, it’s just an assumption as I guess Google won’t reward you anything by doing so.

What’s your take about content duplication? What you will do if you find someone copy your content?
