Pagerank is a numeric value that shows how important is a page on a blog. Google rates your blog depend on how important is your page, it’s including how many inbound links do you have, the more inbound links that link to you page, the higher ranking you have. I would say not all inbound links are quality and to be counted by Google, Google will look into what site that link to you as well. We’re not able to control who link to us, but we can control who we link to.
Google recommended every webmasters or bloggers to do link exchange with relevant and quality sites. It can increases your Page Rank and search engine ranking as well.
Does Pagerank Affect Search Engine Ranking?
Pagerank is not only the factor that affect your search engine ranking. search engine ranking can be affected by on-page optimization and also off-page optimization, other factors like page title, article title, blog content, blog URL, keyword density and etc.
Let’s say you search a keyword of “make money blogging”, I would say not all site with highest pagerank will be in the 1st search result or 1st 10th in Google search, it proves that Google is not only ranks your site by consider your pagerank. But without pagerank, your site won’t get a better search engine ranking as well.
Personal Experience And Conclusion
I experienced of losing pagerank for my blog due to selling text links, I realized that Google search engine ranking for my blog’s keyword is dropping to a few pages behind. It proved that Pagerank really affect our search engine ranking. This was why I decided to take down all the text links selling services.
In my point of view, not to spend maximum time on building your blog to get pagerank I highly appreciate that you build up great content. Great content is more easier to get one-way inbound links from other sites if they found that your articles are interesting and informative for them. Increasing of inbound link can improves your search engine ranking as well, at the same times, pagerank will be following.

Pagerank is useful for those who really makes money from links, selling links etc as the more expensive it is, the higher the pagerank related.

azrin : Yes, pagerank is useful for selling links, but Google slap your pagerank when you sell links, make money from selling links is very short period. When your PR gone, you’ll get nothing, search engine rank decrease, organic traffic decrease, so it’s not recommended to sell link and hurt your PR. But I’m curious why some of them sell links, at the same time they maintain their PR as well.

I’m happy to say that my recent drop in Page Rank doesn’t seem to have had much of an affect on my search rankings; in fact my organic traffic is higher than ever.

Thanks for commenting in my blog. That’s a great news, but I think Pagerank is no longer that important for search engine ranking, it depends on how you optimize your blog and backlinks. Pagerank is important for advertiser, you can quote high price if you have higher pagerank.
