How To Drive Traffic From Facebook

I remember the first time I witnessed the true viral nature of Facebook. I was surfing through my news feed as usual, and found one of my friends had subscribed to a particularly funny fan page. I opened it in a spur of leisurely curiosity. What really caught my attention though, was the amount of people who had joined the page since its opening 24 hours ago; 100,000 fans. I continued to watch this page over the following days and quite frankly I was astonished by the amount of activity that was occurring and the rate at which it was growing.

It’s no secret that Facebook is the major hang out for the majority of the internet’s population. With over 400 million members, Facebook will continue to move forward, setting itself up as a goldmine for internet marketers. I refer to Facebook as a goldmine because although it’s still in its infancy, its systems are much like Google’s Adwords when they first started off. Very easy to produce an ROI and gather traffic to profit.

So how do we use Facebook to drive traffic to our websites to make money online?

There are a number of ways, but none can contend with the viral and profitable nature of a Facebook fan page. They can be setup within seconds and because of their association with Facebook’s systems, they have the potential to grow at an incredible rate if enough people join it early on.

A Facebook fan page goes viral because it utilizes the Facebook “News Feed”. Each member on Facebook has their own news feed which allows them to see their friends’ most recent activity. What this means is that if you “Like” a group called say, “Laughing at random things”, all of your friends are able to view that activity on their news feeds. If they also join, all their friends will be able to view that activity on their news feeds too. Thus, we get a snowball effect which sparks viral growth you can use in order to add exposure for your website or other promotions.

Fan pages are the way to go if you want viral traffic. In my earlier example of a viral page, it had – within just seven days – managed to increase its fan count to over 1.5 million. Imagine having the ability to get that much exposure? It has the potential to transform almost any website, and at that rate of growth, Facebook is the most viral marketing platform online right now.

Facebook is really the way to go when it comes to getting major exposure (like 1 million fans in 2 weeks) of your product or site. Hopefully you can attract your target number of people you need in those 1 million fans, because not everyone will be as interested in buying your product or following your site.

In order to drive traffic through to my clients sites via their facebook profile, I advise them to post messages on related niche groups, send messages to users who are active on related groups and to connect with users via fan pages.

I agree that Facebook is a goldmine for internet marketers. However, I really don’t like the site.

I signed up a while ago and set up a profile. I kept getting all these “friend” requests from people I hadn’t seen for decades (and didn’t want to see, frankly!). But I reciprocated just to be polite.

The list grew and I got roped into e-mail ping pong with some people I just didn’t have time for. (It’s not that I hated them or anything. It’s just that they seemed totally addicted to Facebook and couldn’t understand why I wasn’t. And anyway, I’d just moved on.)

I felt guilty about not responding so I wound up my conversations and deactivated my profile. Haven’t been back since. I know I should go in for another try, but that first experience put me off it, I’m afraid!

Wow thats a lot of fans in such a short period of time. Facebook is a great way to get more traffic to your site but I find the traffic to be of low quality and does not convert well similar to other social media sites.

I completely agree that Facebook is an incredibly viral platform and can be used to promote your business and drive traffic to your website. I may suggest using FBML for the landing page to enhance the user experience. With over 500 million users and the launch of Facebook Places yesterday, there are is lot of potential for heightened customer interactions.

this what i have done to drive traffic from facebook…

    Create a fan page…

Facebook is not the first social network but it is the most popular one. There have been many other social networks before Facebook and while some of them were popular at some point in time, none could reach the popularity of Facebook. In addition to keeping in touch with your friends, Facebook can be (and is) used for business. You can use it to promote your products and services, to acquire new clients, or to get traffic to your site.
