How To Get Correct Search Result In Google Search Engine

by Lee Ka Hoong on May 15, 2009

As a blogger, especially blogger who likes to make money online, they’re very excited to check out the search result or SERPS for their keywords, of course I check the SERPS for few of my keywords everyday as well. Google determine the position or SERPS for our blog’s keywords by checking few factors, such as how many sites link you with the anchor text, how strong or important is the blog that links you, keyword density (less impact or zero), relevancy of content, and etc. Google will consider your on-page optimization and off-page optimization, but content is still king.

In my experiences, I checked the position of my blog with the keyword in Google search engine, it always showed the same position, all of them. It could be standing at the same position for few days or weeks, so you don’t see the correct search result for your keyword.

How To Get Correct Search Result

Everytime we search something using Google search engine, our browser (IE or Firefox) will be saving the search result, I believe that all the data have been saved into our Google account. Let’s say I’m searching for keyword “Make Money Online” :

Search Result

The positions for all the sites in the first page have been stuck for few days, the positions never changed. There is a sentences at the top of the search result, it’s “Personalized based on your web history“, that’s means no matter how many times I check the keyword, the search result will be the same, because the search result is based on my web history, since the first time I searched the keyword “make money online”, it had been saved in my Google account.

In this case, you may want to clear the web history and check for the correct search result. Click on the “More Details“, and you will see this page.

Clear Web History

The page is showing that you would like to remove the web history from your Google account, checkbox the “Yes, I want to permanently remove Web History from my Google account“, key in your Google account password, and click “Remove Web History“, you’re done!

So now you can search the keyword and check the correct search result again, I’d checked again for the keyword “make money online”, so the position of some sites have been changed, that will be the correct search result. Besides these, you can see that the sentence “Personalized based on your web history” has been disappeared.

Search Result 2

If you see the sentence appears again in the future, do the same steps, so that you can get the current correct search result with your browser. I’ve done these for few times already, I may want to check out how to avoid this to be happened again, perhaps don’t save the search result in Google account. I’ll update you if I found it, or you may want to leave a comment and tell me if you’ve found the solution.

Nice info. Now I know that Google save the history of their users’ activities. I never face this situation and I realized that the situation happened if you login to any of Google account such as Gmail, Blogspot, etc.

Maybe there’s a way to disable it through some option but the tips that you gave above is very helpful ad informative. Thanks =)

@alone,
Yea I think so, if we don’t login while searching for something, I think Google account will not be able to save any data. I always login my Google account without logout, so it saved my search history. I feel weird too because it happens once awhile, so I have no idea when it will appear again. :P

@imDavidLee,
I think so, you could try it out and let us know how is that? After you’ve signed out, check whether the sentence “Personalized based on your web history” still appears? :)

@zawzal,
Yea, many people don’t check the SERPS for their keyword too often, so they don’t realize about this. I checked my keyword SERPS almost daily, so I realized it. I hope you like this post too. I hope to see you come back soon zawzal! :D
