We’ve all been there and asked ourselves the age old question: “How to get on page one of google”?
Our new (review) site has been setup and we’re dying to unleash our posts to the whole world – Move over John Chow.
We’ve done our part to get on page one of Google and the waiting game starts.
You know which “waiting game” i am talking about here right?
Yep. The waiting game, where you’ve published your wordpress post, pinged it to death with every RSS submitter stick under god’s sun and finished every cup of coffee in your student dorm, as you wait to get listed on the first pages of Google.
You wait hours on end, just to catch a glimpse of that glimmer of hope called “First Page Rankings”.
If only Mama G (That’s Google btw) would be kind enough to cut you a break and list your posts on page one of Google …
You wait hours, days and even weeks on end and come to the same conclusion like the one millionth blogger before you.
Your blog posts have been beamed into indexing nirvana and your dream to get on page one of Google bites the dust.
Clicking past page 10000000 sucks and I won’t even touch that nerve ;-(
So is all this SERP BS and the whole SEO get on page one of Google complete and utter BS?
What’s going on here and why the hell aren’t you being listed on page one of Google anyhoo? WTF!?!
Well, if you are not the head nerd at Google Seo Headquarters (that’s the chimp deciding who gets listed on the first pages of Google or not btw *) then you only need ONE formula.
I call this formula the “Hidden Art Of Seo Blogging” (for those smarty pants out there the word hidden doesn’t imply that this method Is new nor that I have created it).
This art of seo blogging is akin to blogging shogun where you start to learn to choose your battles.
What do I mean by this?
You don’t start blogging on the keywords that the super bloggers are targeting.
Instead, you start targeting the low fruit i.e., keywords that bring in decent traffic but are not highly competitive.
Such keywords are called long tail keywords.
So if you are sadistic enough to make your next blog on dog training, then an example of a long tail keyword would be dog training in New York for seniors.
A long tail keyword like this is likely to have less competition than say a more generic one like dog training.
So what’s the advantage of targeting the lower fruit long tails say ye?
Great question.
These keywords are laser targeted and you will be eliminating the guesswork completely on not only knowing what demographic you’re writing for but also make it much easier for the cute little Google bots to crawl your websites – seek and destroy .. errmmm … I mean seek and index away little bots.
But the coolest effect which you will notice is that some or even most of your blog entries will be listed TWICE on the same page in Google.
Know what that means?
You’ve landed on the Google Indexing radar with a big SPLASH.
Irrelevant if your site is new or not you’ll soon notice that some of your posts will start getting listed lightning fast (12 hours and/or even less) on the 1st pages for those targeted low tail keywords.
So what’s the morale of the story?
The next time you decide on your domain name or your blog post for that matter, keep one thing in mind.
Forget the highly competitive generic keywords.
Instead, target the longest tail keywords with the least competition and walk away into the sunset with a cool smile knowing:
It’s just another day where you’ve gotten your content out there onto the first pages of Google.

Most recently this is among the top and widely discussed topic besides traffic and SEO on the net. I do understand that without the mastery of persuading Daddy G to like your website or blog would likely to plunge earlier before retire.
Thanks for sharing from your point of view in terms of self technique which could be use and implement. Hope to see more of this kind of topic here in near future. I need lots of it. Cheers…
I am a firm believer in log tail keywords. In fact, I have two long tail key phrases for the index page of one of my sites that generate decent traffic. Not as much as the highly competitive generic single keyword, but close.
Hey Gals and Guys,
Glad you enjoyed the post. More to come ;)
@athleen: A lot of people are often concerned about the amount of the traffic they get.
But i’d rather have 500 targeted uniques a month on a specific keyword rather than 2000 untargeted ones. It’s all about choosing the right “seo battles” you can win ;)
Have a great day
Jamal

Great blog post.
Most people don’t actually realize that they should be targeting the long tail keywords to get ranked for. Most of the time, ranking for 10 or so long tail keywords will get you more targeted traffic than one highly competitive keyword.
When people don’t see their ranking increase, they get frustrated, and quit doing anything at all. I can’t say how many great blogs that I have seen that the webmasters have just stopped posting on, and it’s pretty sad.
Nice to see that you are still posting great content on your blog. Great job.

I’ve read a story on some forum (or was it some blog I don’t remember) who targeted all those long tails which had like 15-30 monthly searches.
I think that the number of those micro niche, ultra long tail keywords with such a low monthly search, but also literally no competition was more than 1500.
So the dude easily managed to get page 1 for more than 1500 of those long tail keywords (with a few which probably had more than just a few dozens of searches), and when all those small trickles of monthly traffic sumed up, the guy had more than 20 000 monthly views. He was earning nicely just from Adsense, not to mention affiliate earnings.
But I think he made a mistake not using that advantage to build a list – at least there wasn’t mentioned he was building a list.
Oh yes, he used squidoo, hubpages, flixya, weebly and other high authority sites to rank easily for those terms.
And he used Micro Niche Finder.
That’s a rather radical example of the Bum marketing.

You do have to make sure that the keywords you are targeting for the first page are actually getting search first though.

I think you are right in some point of views. However, sometimes the long tail keyword is difficultly targeted. We cannot get much traffic from that keyword. May i know how you manage to use the long tail keyword and driving the large organic traffic? Thanks for sharing!

Targeting “long tailed keywords” starting out is good advice, but if you are trying to make Money, then make sure you are going after “Buying Words” as well. Meaning keywords that are likely to lead to a conversion.
Also, go after keywords for “brand new” products and services, cause usually they are very easy to get on the first page of Google for.

Hi Matthew,
Great point on the “buying words”.
A small advice nugget, if you will is microsoft’s oci (online commercial intention), that gives you a brief probability score of how likely a prospect is going to buy from a given domain and for a keyword phrase.
Brand new products are really cool.
Google “The astore report” (without the quotes).
It’s the 3rd link on page one of google at scribd.com that i wrote for my fionce.
It shows how i used the “brand new products methodology” to generate a revenue of $179.97 in 48 hours and i think you’ll love how i did it ;)
Take what i teach in that report, to the next level by using web2.0 sites.
Cheers
