Make money online sounds interesting and it sounds simple for certain people too, they think that they can simply make some money online by doing data entry online, filling out some simple online surveys, and etc, they never know the ugly truth about make money online. In fact, making money from online is not difficult and impossible, you just need to put effort and passion.
I’m a Malaysian and I’ve been blogging and make money online for more than 2 years, there are quite some other bloggers who make passive income from blogging in Malaysia too, such as LiewCF, HongKiat, JayceOoi and etc. Some of them do this part time and they make thousands per month just from blogging, I don’t earn more than them but at least I could touch the word “thousand” as well. I believe that not much Malaysian could do this.
What surprise me is that actually many Malaysians still don’t know what or how to make money online, especially friends around me. They don’t know why a blog can make money, or don’t even know how to make money from blogging. I’m proud to be a Malaysian blogger who can makes a decent income from blogging.
The benefit and advantage of being a Malaysian blogger who used to make money online is that we earn US Dollar, which converts to Ringgit Malaysia at 3.30 right now, which consider a good rate at this moment.
3 Steps How To Start Making Money Online In Malaysia
I believe that there is not much different either make money online in Malaysia or other countries, the method and technique is still the same. You can either start a blog or create a website, I’ve been building and maintaining several niche blogs and micro niche websites, however I would suggest you to start a blog first as it’s much more easier for first timer.
1) Think A Topic
Think a topic that you’re passionate, a topic that you can write non-stop and won’t be out of idea. You must bear in mind that “make money online” niche is not as profitable as you think, while the topic that you know very well is profitable. For example, you’re a gamer who like to play Warcraft game, then you may start a blog that talks about the game that you’re playing, the tricks and strategies of playing Warcraft, and etc.
Never pick a topic that you’re not interested but you THINK it’s profitable, when you’re out of blog post idea, slowly you’ll lose the passion of writing, you’ll just quit blogging in the end.
2) Get A Webhosting And Custom Domain
You have a topic now, so you need a webhosting and custom domain. If you think webhosting and domain is not important, then you should read the article that I wrote 2 months ago with title “1 Reason Why You Should Have Your Own Hosting And Domain” and you’ll know why you must have it before start making money online. If you’re serious in making money online, then you have to at least invest in a reliable web hosting and brandable domain name.
There are many blogging platforms out there, while WordPress is the most popular and friendly user. Nowadays, many web hosting has the features of “Fantastico” which you can build up your blog in just a click, and you’re ready to go. When it comes to web hosting company, I would recommend Hostgator because it’s reliable and I like their technical support.
3) Monetize Your Blog
Of course, you want to monetize your blog since this is your main reason of blogging. You can’t be doing this once you start your blog, you won’t make even a cent because you don’t have traffic. You’ll need to learn how to build up your traffic and build your brand in your niche. Once you have decent traffic, then you’re ready to monetize your blog in several ways.
There are many ways to monetize your blog, such as selling banner ads, Google Adsense, writing sponsored review, selling affiliate products, and etc, you have to keep trying each of them to see which works well for your blog. There is no formula set that which method works well for what kind of blog, make money online is all about trial and error.

Now you know how to make money online in Malaysia, it’s nothing secret in make money online field, you just need to know the steps and methods, then put your effort and don’t give up, I’m sure you’ll be the next Malaysian blogger who makes a decent income from blogging.

Though I am not from Malaysia, these points that you mention are good for the whole world.
Making money online is a skill, and like any single skill, it can be learned. But it does take work, and it does take time.
Regarding the hosting that you mentioned, Hostgator is recommended by almost every one, and I would recommend them too.
If you already have a host, then for domain registration, I would recommend namecheap, as their service and customer support is excellent (namecheap discount coupon for June is SUMMERTIME).

Yea, this post is not only for Malaysian but who anyone who wants to make money online. There is no shortcut in making money online, it takes time and it need a lot of passion and effort. I personally use Godaddy and I have no problem with them, there is a lot of coupon code for Godaddy on the web too, the new coupon code only costs you $6.89 for a domain name. How about NameCheap?

Namecheap’s domain cost after discount is $8.81. It is a little expensive than GoDaddy, but I still prefer namecheap, as I like their user interface and simplicity.
I have had no problems with Namecheap. Though I also hear from many people recommending Godaddy.
I guess we could say GoDaddy and Namecheap are the top 2.

I’m not sure how easy for us to make money online in the past, but what I know is that as long as we follow the right steps, keep going and never give up, then we’ll be success one day later.
Exactly my thoughts. There is much more competition than 2-3 years ago. In fact, within the last 6 months we have seen an increase of competitors vying for position in our niche.

As a newbie, I think you should not choose the “make money online” niche. It is hard to establish yourself as an expert or authority on the subject since you are just starting out.

Absolutely. Many newbie thinks that make money online niche is the best and the most profitable one, but they’re definitely wrong. You have to really go through the process and find out how you can make money online, once you success, you can start sharing your make money online tips in a blog, so called “make money online” blog.
I would advise people to stay away from the Make Money Online niche as there are plenty other directed organic traffic driven niches that make a lot of online income with much lesser traffic as compared to a MMO blog. Some of the niches consistently make 4-5 dollars per click of AdSense. Affiliate sales in those cases are even better. Hence out of your three steps the first step is the most important one.

This is so important but some individuals neglect this philosophy. Thank you for emphasizing.
Some choose niches without determining if they love or know the subject. Because of this, their topic becomes just another tedious “work” and thus making them procrastinate and then, totally abandoning it.
On the other hand, If there is passion on a niche, the subject becomes habit forming and does not feel like work. This will most likely become very established and successful in time, generating substantial profits.

Absolutely. Many people just pick the topic that they think they would make a lot of money from it, but when they couldn’t get the blog post idea and they may quit very soon. Recently I checked a few blog that I didn’t visit for quite some times, I realized that 90% of them closed their blogs, I believe that it’s because they’re out of blog post idea or some other reasons. Choose the topic that we like will always lead to success in the near future.

Lee, you had just hit the nail on the head in the post about making money online. Especially, for those who are just starting out in their online business. All they need is to “think a topic they are passionate about,” “set up a blog or a site for that topic,” build their brand and “start monitizing that brand.”
