How To Signup Web Hosting – Beginner Guide

by Lee Ka Hoong on December 5, 2009

Web hosting is a place where you can store your web page so that your website can be shown on the internet. Signing up a web hosting plan shouldn’t be a complicated task for anyone else, but I realize that there are actually many people still don’t know how to sign up a web hosting plan. It doesn’t mean that they’re foolish, perhaps they just need someone to guide them how to get started – everything else.

Make money online can make you excited, when the money flash on your mind and you just want to start making money online, but when you’re required to invest money to sign up web hosting, you’ll think twice and slow down the process. Signing up a web hosting plan is not a complicated task as almost all the sign up forms in the web hosting website has been systematized, you just need to follow the step and everything can be going fairly smooth.

I’ve been using Hostgator for months, I love the performance and their technical support, very efficiency though. Besides of these, the uptime is almost 100% so my blog is 24×7 up for the readers from all around the world. Since I’m using Hostgator, so I’ll show you step by step how to sign up Hostgator web hosting plan.

Go to Hostgator website and get started.

Step-By-Step How To Sign Up Web Hosting Plan

1) Choose A Web Hosting Plan
There is 3 web hosting plans available on Hostgator – Hatchling Plan, Baby Plan and Business Plan. If you tend to make money online, a single blog is not enough and it won’t make you rich, so pick Baby Plan would be good as it supports unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited addon domain, that means you can build unlimited blog and host them in the web hosting.

So you’ve decided to sign up Baby Plan, now choose the subsription – 1 year, 2 years, 3 years or pay monthly. As shown in the screenshot, the longer period you subscribe, the cheaper the cost. I take 2 years, and click Order Now!

2) Choosing A Domain Name
If you’re new to blogging, I believe that you wouldn’t have any domain name, so pick a new one. Choose a name that is easy to remember, it’s better if the domain name represents the niche that you’re going to take. I simply register my name as an example.

register-domain-name

Click next to check whether the domain is available.

domain-availability

If your preferable domain is not available, then go back and choose a new one. If your preferable domain is available, click “Continue”. Then you’ll be led to a page that displays all your order details, confirm your details, fill in the coupon code to get a discount if any, click “Calculate Totals”.

Again, it shows your order details as well as the cost involved. Checkbox the “I am a new customer” and click “Continue”.

3) Fill Up Customer’s Details Form and Make Payment
So now you need to fill up the form, and choose the payment method, either Credit Card or Paypal. After filling the form, click “Verify My Order”. Alright, you’re going to complete the registration procedure, check and ensure all the details are correct, then click “Process My Order”.

Then you’ll need to make payment via credit card or paypal. After payment made, you’ll receive an email from Hostgator titled “HostGator : Invoice Payment‏”. After they process your registration, you’ll then receive an email titled “Your HostGator Account Information‏”, following the steps which stated in the email and you’re ready to start your first blog!

Sign Up Hostgator And Get Discount 20% Now!

Hostgator has a winter special discount in 20% for your initial order during December 2009, click the banner below and use the coupon code “SNOWMAN” to sign up your web hosting plan.

The cost is affordable, especially when it comes with 20% discount, it’s definitely the best deal!

@IGQ,
Any place where requires credit card details, yes we have to beware and not to disclose our credit card details to third party. So I prefer to pay things online by using paypal.

Lee,
What about buying the domain name at Netfirms and then host the website at HostGator? Hostgator charges $12 (after 20% discount) plus $10 for domain privacy, while Netfirms only charges $7.99 with domain privacy included. Will it be very troublesome to do it separately?

Thank you in advance.
Herman

@herman,
Sure why not? You can even buy it at Godaddy and change the nameserver to Hostgator. I would really appreciate if you could sign up under my affiliate link, I could help you out with the nameserver and show you step-by-step. Nope, it’s just an easy job. Just give me a nudge and I’ll help you out. :)

Lee,
I appreciate your quick reply which is impressive. As a layman, I have a stupid question: say, I have created a blog named ABC.com and want to make money by advertising. How do I receive payment from advertisers like Google Ads when my real name is Herman instead of ABC.com? When I sign up with the advertisers, can I make it clear that they should pay to Herman even though the blog is named ABC.com? Do they send cheques or do they pay by bank transfers like paypal? Will paypal allow me to open an account called ABC.com but it is just a blog, not a registered company?

Reply

37 Lee Ka Hoong (535 comments.) December 23, 2009 at 11:59 am

@herman,
No worries Herman, that’s not a stupid question and I asked the same question when I first started online.

Google Adsense pays by checks, they currently don’t pay via paypal. When you register, you’re required to fill in the name that they’re going to send the checks to, so fill in your real name instead of blog URL. Payee name and blog URL will be in separate section, so no conflict from there.

Paypal allows you to open account with only email address, example leekahoong@hotmail.com, myblog2day@gmail.com and etc. It doesn’t need to be a registered company, anyone can sign up.

I hope I answer your questions, let me know if you have further more question. :)
