Have you ever wondered how those super affiliates generate thousands of sales in a few short hours of a new product launch? Well the secret is no secret at all. I am sure you have heard the “money is in the list” thousands of times but how exactly do you go about building your list of subscribers?
Building a list requires a substantial amount of effort because you are going to find out that the money is NOT in the list. Did you hear me say it correctly? Yes the money is not in the list. The money is actually in the Quality of the list. One may have a huge list of subscribers but if none of the subscribers opens your emails and take action, then the list is as good as dead. However if a person has a small list but the subscribers are responsive and takes action, then the sales will naturally follow. It all comes down to building a relationship with your list.
To get started building your list, you will need a few tools: domain, hosting, squeeze page and an autoresponder. A squeeze page is a very simple one page website used to capture the email address of your visitors. You present them with a free gift related to your niche and they in exchange give you their name and email address. The reason for the squeeze page to be only one page is because once a person visits your squeeze page, he has only 2 options – to opt in or leave.
You will also need a good autoresponder. An autoresponder is a program which stores your subscribers contact and is able to send them pre-written follow up emails on a timeline basis. A good one I personally like is aweber due to their fast and efficient delivery of my emails. I have tried getresponse and did not find their service that good.
After you have set up your system, you are ready to get subscribers. To do that you will need to drive traffic to your squeeze page. This is where many people fail.
Remember we talked about getting quality subscribers to our squeeze page? Well if you are thinking about buying subscribers, then it is almost guaranteed that you will end up with an unresponsive list.
Here are some of the top quality traffic that you can drive to your squeeze page:
- JV traffic
- PPC
- Article Marketing
- Video Marketing
- Social Media
As you can see, joint venture is the highest quality type of traffic that you can get, but if you are new to list building it is difficult to get people to joint venture with you. Pay Per Click (adwords) traffic is the next most targeted traffic. If you know how to do PPC then by all means go for it, well if you do not then you might end up losing money.
For beginners, article marketing and video marketing is what I would recommend. Firstly because it is free and secondly it is the best free traffic generation method now.

“It all comes down to building a relationship with your list.” This is really important. When, initially, you give something of value to your subscribers, then you also need to provide further value like a weekly newsletter. It is very important to avoid the early hard sell.
By all means introduce a product to sell, but after you have provided good value.
Also, for traffic, you can also use the help of Forum Marketing. I use that.
And lastly, Could you please explain how to do Video Marketing? I do not currently use Video Marketing, but I would like to use it, so any help will be appreciated!

I must say, great round up and summary. However, the money is not in the list for me now at the moment. I can’t personally judge how efficient will making money online be when you have a list of responsive e-mails. What I do know is that i have been able to make a decent amount online without having to do having any opt in list. But hey, i suppose if i need to take my earnings up to a higher level, I should most probably work on e-mail marketing.
nevertheless, with so much possible ways of marketing and making money online, comes effort and perseverance, I am sure any strategy is as good as it is. =)

Video marketing is basically creating a video and sending it to youtube with a link back to your website in the description. Camtasia is a good on-screen recorder but it is expensive. Another alternative is to use a regular camera and record yourself talking and then post it to youtube.

I think have a good reason to send the email is a must. Sounds simple, but the best email marketing campaigns are the one where the recipient actually wants to receive the email. Plus, host providers frown on emails being sent from the same ip and being bounced back.

I agree the money “is in the list” and that email marketing is a very powerful. However I might add that it is very important that you build a relationship with that list before you promote to them. I know for a fact that I am more responsive when I trust a person than when I don’t trust them. Just my 2 cents.
